Home guard sentenced to 10-years imprisonment for sexually assaulting 12-year-old

Hyderabad: The POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Hyderabad sentenced a home guard to 10-years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl from Gowlipura, Hyderabad. The accused, who was allegedly having an affair with the child’s mother, sexually abused the girl for over a year, the police said.

The accused, who is a home guard at the Malakpet railway station, was living in the victim's house. When the mother was away, he would give money to the girl's siblings and ask them to go and buy chocolates. However, he would ask the girl to stay with him. The incident came to light when the girl confided to her school teacher who then informed the girl's mother.

A complaint was filed on 27 July 2018 and after nearly two years, the home guard was sentenced on 22 June. Apart from rigorous imprisonment for 10 years, the accused has to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000 and serve two-years imprisonment for criminal intimidation.
