By Renoj Roy Published on 17 Jan 2020 5:41 PM ISTHyderabad: In a rare case, a surgery was performed by Hyderabad doctors on a pregnant lady to remove a tumor from her ovary.
Mrs Nandini, a 27-year-old underwent through a Laparoscopic surgery (the surgery which uses several 0.5-1cm incisions and a laparoscope, a small camera that transmits images to high-resolution video monitors) after the 1st trimester of her pregnancy.
She was diagnosed with Ovarian cyst (Tumor), which is seen very rarely (1:5000) in pregnant women. As she was in the 1st trimester of pregnancy the doctors could not perform an operation. After her 1st trimester, laparoscopic surgery was performed in order to have speedy recovery & less post-operation complications.
āAs the patient was in her 1st trimester, she was medically managed till 13-week gestation. Then we took up the challenge and decided to go for laparoscopic surgery. The surgery was complex, but we could carry out with perfection due to thorough planning and vast experience in similar cases. This was a very rare case due to its severity,ā says doctor Vasundara, Gynecologist, who headed this surgery.
However, most cysts are painless, don't cause symptoms and go away on their own.
The surgery was performed by Dr Vasundara Cheepurupalli and her team from KIMS Hospital.
