Division 136: TRS Corporator under fire for unfulfilled promises

Hyderabad: Neredmet, a place where politics is ardent in all age groups right from teenagers to senior citizens. During my morning walk today, I heard the Local Kirana shopkeeper (Grocery Store) asking a commuter who has got the ticket? The person shouted with a confident voice. Upender Reddy! Husband of the TRS candidate for 136 division.

President of Chicken Shop's Owners Association of Malkajgiri, who was given the party ticket. Showing a hand sign of slicing a mango with a knife. Apparently, this was at 6:10 am just to give a glimpse of how politics is dominating the life of ordinary citizens.

Youth are especially attracted to all the glitter and fame watching the politicians involved in local issues, expecting support in the matters involving police.

The participation of huge crowds shows the strength of the political rally. It is often displayed as a symbol of huge influence and local support. During the election time, the political leaders ask youth leaders and local ward members to gear-up for huge bike rallies. In turn, they offer Rs 800 per biker and a liter of petrol. These youngsters are often picked up from government colleges in and around the locality.

Money plays a major role in these rallies. Ladies from the slums are lured with Rs 500 per person. They are often brought in the DCM (Truck) like we say in Hindi "baed bakriyon". Here I have no intention to disrespect them. But that's how they are brought to the scene. One should wonder where does all the money coming from to pay these hired workers.

Telangana State Election Commission has no information about the poll expenditure, but our IT Minister KTR had recently sarcastically called "NDA" as No data available. The same applies to the State Election Commission website. They have no data about the expenditure monitoring of any of the candidates.

Apparently, the GHMC 2020 elections will be a very close battle in 136 division Neredmet especially after the ruling party's defeat in Dubbak. It is an open secret that TRS 136 Division's Corporator Katikaneni Sreedevi was never on good terms with the TRS Malkajgiri MLA.

A pathetic track record would be an understatement to gauge her performance as a Corporator. The development works taken up by the Corporator was next to nil.

Getting Corporator's ticket because of support from the real estate and chit funds business was never seen to be in the interest of public service. It was only to safeguard their existing properties and continue the expansion of their construction business. Indeed, a terrible decision by the TRS. But what matters for TRS was receiving money.

The unauthorized constructions, land grabbing mafia continues to flourish and complaints registered with the My GHMC app are totally ignored and unattended.

Well, it was time for the TRS to choose a new face given the failure of the sitting corporator. But will Ms. Kothapally Meena Reddy be able to do? It is a known fact her husband will be doing all the talking in public.

As filed in the affidavit, TRS candidate has studied up to 9th standard. Perhaps TRS is doing another experiment on the people of 136 division.

On the other hand, BJP and Congress candidates are working tirelessly to defeat the ruling party. Campaigns for both parties are going in full swing.

People's demands remain unchanged. From fixing drainage systems to speeding up alternative or 2nd New Flyover at RK Puram, people expect the Corporator to fulfill their demands.

The existing RK Flyover is leading to traffic congestion. Redesigning of RK Puram lake, Regular Road closures by the Army, Existing Road repairs, New Roads, RUB – Project completion at Vaipainagar are almost pending for 10-15 years. Development of existing parks, private school fee regularization, dump yard issue, unauthorized constructions, Existing Rhythu Bazar Development and lastly the Flood relief for citizens.

The list can go on. But I hope the elected representative will review these matters and ensure completion of the pending works which were totally ignored in the last 5 years by the TRS Corporator.

As an activist, I will continue to raise my voice to highlight the failures of the government, fight against injustice and corruption, and stand up for the basic rights of the citizens. I will try to be the voice of the voiceless and help citizens of not just my division but entire Hyderabad.
