Jolt to TDP: Guntur West MLA Maddala Giri meets Jagan
By Newsmeter Network Published on 30 Dec 2019 1:54 PM GMTAmaravati: Deeply hurt by Guntur MP Galla Jayadev and former minister Pratipathi Pulla Ra’s attitude, Guntur West TDP MLA Maddala Giri reportedly decided to distance himself from TDP. His absence in today’s (December 30) party programme led to speculations that he may join YSRCP.
Within no time, TDP Supremo N Chandrababu Naidu learnt that Maddala Giri met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the latter’s camp office. AP Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas Rao was also reportedly present during the meeting.
Guntur West is popular for the domination of Kamma leaders, and Galla Jayadev, Pulla Rao, and a few TDP leaders had reportedly humiliated Giri, who is a Vysya. It had happened before 2019 elections and continues now, reported sources.
Giri, who has been in a dilemma for the last few months, had previously decided to join BJP. However, as Andhra Pradesh’s environment has changed, the MLA has opted for YSRCP.
A TDP secretary, under condition of anonymity said, "Giri might not leave TDP but might ask the Assembly Speaker to treat him as an independent MLA, similar to Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi. With Giri’s decision, TDPs strength in Assembly will come down to 21 from 23. Both Vamsi and Giri will be treated as independent members,"
