Hyderabad: Hyderabadā€™s food landscape is constantly evolving, offering more than just mealsā€”some restaurants craft immersive experiences that transport diners to different cultures and eras.

Now, explore two such places: a Korean barbeque spot that emphasises interactive dining and a medieval-themed lounge inspired by a popular TV series.

Korean Barbeque at Osaka, Banjara Hills

Korean cuisine is known for its balance of spice, sweetness and umami, and Osakaā€™s new barbeque menu brings this experience to the city. Available in vegetarian, chicken and meat options, the meal is designed to be both flavourful and engaging.

Seated in the outdoor section, diners grill their own food under a canopy of flowing white fabric, which moves gently with the breeze, adding to the atmosphere. The star of the spread was the meat, marinated in three distinct saucesā€”gochujang, samjang, and soya. Gochujang brought a spicy-sweet heat, samjang added a nutty savouriness, and soya provided a deep umami flavour.

As the meat sizzled on the grill, the aroma of caramelised fat mixed with garlic and onion was irresistible. The servers cook each piece, ensuring a rich infusion of flavours. Wrapped in crisp lettuce with a selection of dipping sauces, the dish offers a satisfying contrast of textures.

Among the vegetarian options, the butter garlic mushrooms stood out, with a combination of shiitake, button, and white mushrooms cooked in butter and garlic. The kimchi fried rice, with its subtle spice, complemented the barbeque well. You can end the meal with the Crunchy Enoki Uramaki, which provides a light yet flavourful finish.

A medieval feast at Alehouse, Gachibowli

For those who enjoy themed dining, Alehouse in Gachibowli offers an experience straight out of a medieval fantasy. Inspired by Game of Thrones, the restaurantā€™s entrance features a heavy wooden door flanked by flame torches and stone walls, leading into a tavern-style setting with handmade leather chairs and rustic wooden tables.

Upstairs, the decor includes the ā€˜Hall of Facesā€™ from the show and a striking red-eyed dragon figurine, adding to the immersive feel. The bar serves a variety of beers and signature cocktails, making it a popular spot for fans and casual diners alike.

The menu featured a mix of cuisines, and one of the recommended starters was the Burmese Parcelsā€”crispy pastry pockets filled with a creamy, spiced vegetable mixture.

For the main course, the Shepherdā€™s Pie was a standout. The smooth, buttery mashed potatoes paired well with the spiced meat and vegetable filling, creating a hearty and comforting dish.

Dessert was Chocolate of Heaven, a rich dark chocolate-based treat layered with creamy coconut. The use of uneven cutlery and medieval-style plating added to the dining experience, making it feel like a feast from another era.
