Anantapur: A mother, along with her three daughters, jumped into a well at Kammavaripalle under Puttaparthi mandal in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh on 23 February. Local people jumped into the well to rescue the family. However, they could rescue only the woman and their efforts to save the three girls, Bhargavi (8), Bhavya (8) and Chandana (5), proved futile. The woman, Arunamma, was rushed to a local hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.

The police said that Arunamma took the extreme step over family disputes. The police have registered a case and an investigation is on. Though the exact reasons for the suicide are yet to be ascertained, local people said Arunamma jumped into the well after a tiff with her husband.
