Murder convict Mallela Om Prakash dies of kidney failure in Vizag
By Newsmeter Network Published on 28 July 2020 4:18 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: The 53-year-old prisoner, who was serving life imprisonment for killing jail mate, died of alleged renal failure at KG Hospital in Vizag city in the early hours on Sunday.
Mallela Om Prakash was convicted for killing jail mate and sharpshooter Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy alias Moddu Srinu in 2008.
Superintendent of Vizag Central Prison, S Rahul said that Om Prakash has been suffering from kidney-related ailments for the past few years and has been undergoing dialysis treatment at KGH. āWe are suspecting that Om Prakash died of renal failure only,ā he said.
Om Prakash had murdered Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy alias Moddu Srinu, who was accused in the TDP MLA Paritala Ravi's murder case, by smashing his head with a dumbbell in the jail on November 9, 2008.
It was in 2010, Om Prakash was sentenced to life and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Fourth Fast Track Court Judge KV Vijaya Kumar. Due to the rude behavior, Om Prakash was transferred from Central Prison Kadapa to Warangal. Later he was transferred to Vizag and Nellore central prisons. In 2016, Om Prakash was transferred to Vizag Central Prison from Nellore on medical grounds.
The jail authorities said that Om Prakash complained of uneasiness in wee hours on Sunday and was shifted to KGH, where he passed away. The authorities are waiting for the post mortem report to know the exact cause of his death.
