Tamil Nadu: Mysterious blast kills 1 and injures 5
By Newsmeter Network Published on 26 Aug 2019 6:15 AM GMTChennai: Blast at a temple in Tamilnadu resulted in death for one person, five injured on sunday.� The scene of the incident was chaotic as rescue work began immediately. Police in large numbers was deployed.
The victim has been identified as K. Surya, while the injured have been admitted to a government hospital and are undergoing treatment.
Police said, "An unidentified object was found in Gangai Amman Koil in Manampathi, near Tirupathur in Kanchipuram district on Sunday. The tank had not been used for several years. During that desilting of the tank, workers found an unidentified object before the blast had occured. When they tried to open it, it blew up killing a youth."
A police officer was quoted telling a newspaper, "We have ruled this out as a terror strike. It is a different kind of blast."
The blast occurred at a time when an alert of a terror threat has been issued in Tamil Nadu following intelligence reports that six ultras from the LeT infiltrated the state.
Elsewhere in the state, security remains tight and thorough checks are being carried out. A large number of police have been deployed especially in Kovai due to the blast.�
