The woman slit her husband’s throat with a kitchen knife when he was asleep, the police said. The woman also tried to project the incident as a suicide, by leaving the knife in her husband’s hands, but later admitted to killing him.
According to the police, the deceased, Ganji Srinivas, 50, a resident of Manganur village in Bijinepally mandal was addicted to alcohol. Since the wine shops opened last week, he has been continuously consuming alcohol and harassing his wife. On Sunday, he came home in an inebriated condition and picked up a quarrel with his wife during which he allegedly thrashed her and then, went to sleep.
The accused, who also fell asleep, woke up late in the night and found Srinivas in deep sleep on a cot outside the house. She picked up a knife from the kitchen and slit his throat with it even when he was sleeping and later, went inside the house and slept.
In the morning, she raised an alarm after which their neighbours rushed to the house and alerted the police. Nagarkurnool CI Gandhi Nayak said a case has been registered and a special team has been formed to detect the case.
It was found that though the woman claimed that her husband committed suicide, during interrogation, she admitted to killing him.
