Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrests arms dealer ahead of Assembly elections

New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Assembly Elections in New Delhi, a team of Special Cell from Delhi Police has arrested an inter-state firearms trafficker.

The officials have identified the accused as Sajid, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. Police recovered 20 illegal pistols including ten each of .32 bore semi-automatic pistols, and .315 bore single-shot pistols. Apart from that, they also seized 50 live cartridges (20 cartridges of .32 bore and 30 cartridges of .315 bore).

The DCP of Delhi Police’s Special Cell Pramod Kushwaha said, “We are making special efforts to track and arrest illegal arms traffickers. These efforts are made considering the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections and to cut the supply of illegal firearms and ammunition to criminals of Delhi and NCR.” He added that during their efforts, they received information about the Sajid’s involvement in inter-state illegal firearms trafficking, bringing arms to Delhi to supply to locals criminals.

The Special Cell formed a team to fetch further information. Later, the group received information that Sajid was coming to deliver a consignment to criminals near Talkatora Park in the national capital. The officers laid a trap and apprehended Sajid from the park roundabout along with pistols and live cartridges.

According to police, the accused Sajid has been supplying arms and ammunitions to the criminals for the last few years. Investigators are verifying his previous involvement, and meanwhile, they have registered a case against him under Section 25 of the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.
