2 or 1 hall-ticket? Officials in a fix as siamese Veena-Vani get ready for SSC exams

Hyderabad: Conjoined twins Veena and Vani are facing another exam in their life. They are appearing for SSC exam, which is also posing a dilemma for the Education Department. Officials are mulling whether one or two hall-tickets should be issued to the conjoined twins.

Sources said the Commissioner of School Education Department will take a call on the hall-ticket after consulting the Health and Medical Departments.

Veena and Vani have been living at a state home in Vengala Rao Nagar in Hyderabad since January 2017. The Education Department has appointed teachers exclusively for the twins. The sisters joined a government high school in January 2019 and are set to write their SSC papers starting March 19, 2020.

The Women and Child Welfare department had set up a three-member committee to ascertain the readiness of the twins for the exam. The panel has given a go-ahead, saying the twins fulfil the conditions concerning age, eligibility and subject knowledge.

Skipping fourth and sixth grades, Veena and Vani directly appeared for the Std VII exam and scored 90 percent. When asked about their career options, one wants to become an engineer and the other a scientist.

Teachers said the twins are good at Maths, Geography and Science subjects. The state home has made special arrangements for the twins in a separate room allocated for them.
