Pregnant woman dies as sunshade collapses at COVID hospital in Tirupati
By Newsmeter Network Published on 5 Oct 2020 10:18 AM GMTTirupati: In a freak mishap, a pregnant woman, identified as Radhika, who was also an outsourcing employee, died and two patients suffered injuries when a part of the sunshade of the window in the newly-constructed building block of Padmavati COVID Hospital collapsed and fell on the victims who were standing beneath in the wee hours of Monday.
The incident triggered protest by the Left parties, BJP leaders and activists in Tirupati and a tense situation was witnessed at the hospital, attached to SVIMS. Considering the issue seriously, Deputy Chief Minister (Health) Alla Nani directed a thorough inquiry and promised help to the family of the victim.
It is suspected that poor quality of construction led to the incident.
It is learnt that Radhika's two children had died in an accident a couple of years ago and now, she died of head injuries. On information, the health minister enquired SVIMS director Vengamma about the incident.
He also directed the authorities to provide the best treatment to the injured in the incident and asked the engineering officials to inquire into the incident and submit a report on the same. "It is unfortunate. We will take action against those responsible once the report is submitted," he said.

The outsourcing staff at SVIMS and BJP activists staged a protest demanding justice to Radhika. However, police pacified the protesters and removed them from the spot.
