Putin to attend Jallikattu in Alanganallur ?
By Newsmeter Network Published on 29 Oct 2019 10:17 AM GMTChennai: Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping attended an informal summit in Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, it was announced that Modi will host Russian President Vladimir Putin in Madurai for this year's Jallikattu Pongal festival.
It was also said that two would witness the famous AlanganallurJallikattu, which is a famous bull-taming event hosted during Pongal in this part of the country. This caught the admiration of all in Tamil Nadu, and even regional news channels aired the news this morning.
However, the Ministry of External Affairs immediately brushed aside reports that Vladimir Putin will be present in Alanganallur near Madurai for Jallikattu .
The news has now aroused the curiosity of Tamilians, considering Modi's sudden love for Tamil and the State. Modi wore a veshti, traditional attire of Tamil Nadu while receiving the Chinese President in Mahabalipuram. His attire won laurels from many Tamil Nadu Ministers and leaders of various political parties here.
Modi also tweeted in Tamil during his visit to Mahabalipuram and even mentioned how Tamil is one of the oldest languages.
Interestingly, while addressing UN General Assembly in September, the Prime Minister recalled Tamil poet, Kaniyan Poongundranar's famous lines, 'YaadhumOore Yaavarum Kelir.'
Per Russian sources: Have never heard anything of a visit by President Putin to Tamil Nadu, don't know where this is coming from.
