Mulugu: Thirty-eight-year-old photojournalist Bommineni Sunil Reddy was killed while his friend Devender Reddy was severely injured after a violent brawl broke out inside a bakery at Pasra of Govindaraopet Mandal in Mulugu district on Monday night.
The incident occurred when Bommineni Sunil Reddy, who is a Warangal Press Club treasurer, had accompanied his friend Devender Reddy to recover the outstanding debt from a bakery owner.
Sources said Devender Reddy had lent money to Dayanand, a native of Hassan in Karnataka, to set up a bakery at Pasra. However, he failed to clear the debt as promised.
On Monday, Devender and Sunil went to Pasra to seek police help. After speaking to the local inspector, they met Dayanand at his bakery.
Meanwhile, some of the friends of Dayanand also joined in and they took Sunil inside the house behind the bakery.
The discussion in the bakery turned into a heated argument and Dayanand smashed a bottle on Devenderās head before stabbing him on the neck. Later they downed the shutters of the bakery and left Devender in a pool of blood.
Dayanand and his friends later attacked Sunil with sticks and knives and killed him inside the kitchen. After hearing the screams, locals informed the police. Police immediately reached the spot and evacuated the duo to Mulugu hospital. Doctors, however, declared Sunil Reddy dead on arrival while Devender was admitted for treatment
Though the police are yet to issue any official statement, sources said Dayanand, his brother Prabhu and two other persons were arrested and the investigation is underway.
Sunil Reddy hails from Elukurthy in Geesugonda Mandal. He is unmarried and the only son of his parents. He was serving as a treasurer of Warangal Press Club.
