Television host Kathi Karthika, five others booked for cheating Hyderabad builder

Hyderabad: Police have registered a case against television host Kathi Karthika and five others for allegedly cheating a builder by fraudulently selling a parcel of land at Ameenpur on the city outskirts.

Karthika and five others collected the money from P Dora Swamy claiming that they are authorized to sell 59-acre land plot at Ameenpur.

Later, he came to know that he has been cheated as Karthika and others had no rights over the land. Karthika, who was one of the participants in inaugral season of Big Boss Telugu, is also related to Deputy Speaker of Telangana Assembly T Padma Rao.

P Dora Swamy, the owner of Touchstone Property Developers Private Limited lodged the complaint against Karthika and others. Dora Swamy had come into contact with the accused through his friend Sridhar, an architect in May 2020.

He intrdouced Karthika, Sivaram Prasad, Bhimsen Rao, J Lal, Murali Krishna and Mohan Santosh Lal as facilitators.

They proposed to sell Dora Swamy a parcel of land measuring 59.29 acres at Ameenpur. Karthika informed him that they have been authorized by the landowners to sell the land.

Since they had been introduced by Sridhar, he trusted them and deposited Rs one crore in the account of M/S Karthika Group owned by Karthika. They also reached an agreement that the money can be refunded if he wishes to drop out of the project.

Meanwhile, Dora Swamy met original landowners and found out that Karthika was not authorized to sell the land. Landowners demanded Rs 80 Crores for entering into the land development agreement with him.

Realizing that Karthika and others had duped him, he approached the police. Jubilee Hills police registered a case under Sections 416, 420, and 120B of the IPC and started the investigation.
