Thunderstorm, heavy rains in Nellore kill seven

Strong gale winds, coupled with heavy rainfall lashed the district on Thursday afternoon. Trees and crops were uprooted, power cables damaged, and paddy stocks submerged in many areas.
Four people were killed after they were struck by lightning when they were working in the fields. The victims were Narapareddy Penchala Reddy (62) of Bhaskaragirivari Kandrika under Bogole mandal, Kalahasti Subbarao (54) of Padamata Gogulapalli under Allur mandal, G. Srinivasulu (37) of Puderu under Naidupet mandal, and Malli Guravaiah from Gottiprolu in the same Mandal.
Three people who were rearing sheep on the outskirts of Chennuru village were also killed. They have been identified as Subbarayudu (54) from Chennuru in Dagadarthi, Annavarapu Syam (35) and Narasaiah (40) from Gollapalli in Pamur of Prakasam district. The two from Prakasam were in the village to collect fodder.
Meanwhile, five people from Kapuluru under Naidupet mandal were injured after they were struck by lightning. They have been admitted to the government hospital in Kota.
In Nellore city, drains overflowed and power supply was interrupted for over five to six hours. Rains devastated plantain crops and vegetables in Kovur, Leguntapadu, Inamadugu, Sangam, and other mandals.
