Vijayawada, May 27: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the Southwest monsoons are advancing towards Kerala. IMD said as per the latest meteorological indications, westerly winds have strengthened in the lower levels over the south Arabian Sea and deepened.
As per satellite imagery, there is an increase in cloudiness over the Kerala coast and adjoining the southeast Arabian Sea. Hence, conditions are becoming favorable for monsoon onset over Kerala during the next two to three days, the IMD report said.
Further conditions are also favorable for the advance of the Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of the Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area during the same period. The north-south trough from north interior Karnataka to Comorin area extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Meanwhile, the monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of the South Arabian Sea, the entire Maldives and adjoining areas of Lakshadweep, and some more parts of the Comorin area.
Lower tropospheric westerly winds prevailed over AP and Yanam and thunderstorms are likely for three days from Saturday onwards in both these areas, the report added.
