Telangana HC lawyers to boycott Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, allege misconduct
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court Advocates Association (THCAA) has called all advocates to boycott the Telangana High Court bench (Court No. 5) comprising Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya from June 30 (Monday) over misconduct allegations.
Regarding the issue, three resolutions were passed unanimously in the recently held THCAA General Body Meeting at the High Court Bar Association Hall.
THCAA president, A Jagan, speaking with the media on Friday, elaborated on the cause behind the decision to boycott Justice Moushumi Bhattacharyaās HC Bench. He said that in recent times, Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya has been misusing her position with the advocates in the bench. He said they were especially protesting the alleged misconduct towards members of the bar and the alleged imposition of heavy costs on the members while dealing with cases.
Advocates to ask Acting CJ not to allocate work to Justice Moushumi
Jagan said that the THCAA passed three resolutions unanimously during the meeting. The first resolution is to boycott her court from Monday onwards until suitable action is taken against her.
The second resolution is to request the Telangana High Court Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul not to allocate any judicial work to Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya.
The third resolution is to write a letter to President Droupadi Murmu and the Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, for her immediate transfer from the Telangana High Court. They highlighted the incidents of harassment that advocates are facing due to the exemplary costs to the parties in the cases.
Jagan alleged that Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya was passing directions to the registry to appoint legal aid counsels even without the consent of the clients.
Further, Jagan said that the THCAA executive committee is planning to meet the Chief Justice of India and the Supreme Court Collegium about the harassment and misconduct of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya towards the advocates.
