Two arrested for duping woman of Rs. 25 lakh by promising employment

Hyderabad: Two men were arrested on 12 July for cheating a woman and her brother to the tune of Rs. 25 lakh with a false promise of providing a job. The Rachakonda cyber crime police arrested Naresh Kumar Veerabattini (29) and Giri Babu Akunoori (25).

According to the police, Naresh worked as an office boy at Film Chambers in Film Nagar. He impersonated a popular Telugu soap artist and hired the woman, a make-up artist, for some make-up projects to gain her trust. He, however, never met her.

After a few months, the woman asked Naresh if he could help her brother find a job. He told her he had contacts in the Railway department and promised to find employment for her brother. He asked her to transfer money through Google Pay and Phonepe to his friends and relatives. Naresh and Giri Babu then took the money from their friends.

The police found that the two men had spent the money lavishly. They had travelled to Vizag and Tirupati in rented cars and stayed at luxury hotels. Naresh had also bought a two-wheeler and gold with the same money. The police recovered the gold, the two-wheeler, and cash worth Rs. 4 lakhs from the arrested men.

The cops have advised citizens not to fall prey to fake job offers and be cautious about people they meet online.
