FACT CHECK

The claim is false.

Newsmeter performed a keyword search and found a YouTube video by ABP's Sanjha which was posted in October 2016 titled, "Kurukshetra: BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini was attacked during a programme"

In this video, the attack on the MP is shown in another clipping. The clothes worn in this video and the viral video are the same. Saini is wearing a kurta, a shawl and a yellow turban in both the videos, thus proving the viral video is from 2016 and is not related to the protest against Farmers Bills 2020.

A tweet by the handle 'Haryana News Line' on November 5, 2016, was found which upon translation reads, "Exclusive: The video of soot on the mouth of BJP MP Rajkumar Saini from Kurukshetra has been revealed today. You also see what happened". It shows the same video which is now viral which further proves that false claims are being attached to an old video.

Newsmeter also found reports by the Times of India and the Indian Express which stated that the incident took place on October 16, 2016, in Kurukshetra after Saini was coming out of the venue where he addressed a gathering.

The five persons accused of throwing ink on Kurukshetra MP Rajkumar Saini and roughing him up were on Wednesday sent to judicial custody till November 2. Protests were held at several places against registration of case of attempt to murder against them by the police. The incident took place on October 16 in Kurukshetra after Saini was coming out of the dharamshala where he addressed a gathering, reads Indian Express report.
