Women along with children jumps into Godavari after losing husband to COVID
By Newsmeter Network Published on 19 Aug 2020 6:15 PM ISTEast Godavari: A woman and her two children jumped into river Godavari in the Kovvuru area in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, on 19 August after the woman's husband who was the breadwinner of the family died of COVID-19 three days ago.
The deputy superintendent of police, Kovvuru K. Rajeshwara Reddy, said the victims have been identified as 50-year-old Sunitha, her 25-year-old son Phani Kumar, and 23-year-old daughter Aparna. The womanās husband Narasaiah (52) died of coronavirus at a private hospital in Rajahmundry in East Godavari district on 16 August. The civic authorities cremated his body the following day. After Narasaiah's death, relatives and friends did not visit his family to console them, the police said.
The three members of the family drove to the road-cum-rail bridge on river Godavari at Kovvuru around 1 a.m on Wednesday and jumped into the river which was in full spate due to the recent heavy rains. The cops found a note in the car. The family was depressed following the death of Narasaiah, they said.
