Hyderabad: Hyderabadā€™s food scene is a mosaic of rich traditions and contemporary trends, offering something for every palate.

From traditional flavours brought to life in new settings to eateries with scenic lake views and nostalgic bakery experiences, the city is alive with culinary diversity.

Each spot ā€“ Bharateeyam, Lake District Bar & Kitchen and Big Byte Bakers ā€“ has its own story to tell, whether through a twist on classic dishes, a lakeside ambience or a reminder of simpler times.

Hereā€™s a closer look at what each of these destinations has to offer.

Bharateeyam at Lulu Mall: A taste of traditional Indian flavours

Located in Kukatpallyā€™s Lulu Mall, Bharateeyam captures the essence of Indian cuisine with dishes that blend comfort and curiosity. Starting with a comforting Pata Shorba and tangy Munakkada Mukkala Charu, this meal introduced flavours both familiar and inventive.

Mocktail Magic

The restaurantā€™s mocktails reflect the same quirky creativity, with options like X Press Saroja, a vanilla-based delight and Pacha Samudram, a litchi-forward refresher. Chocolate lovers will appreciate the aptly named Chocolate Lips, while Time Pass, coconut-based, brings an unexpected twist.

Appetisers with a twist

In appetisers, the Nimakaya Chepa Seekulu, a fish-on-stick creation, stands out. Kodi Seekulu and Stuffed Paneer Seekulu offer rich flavours, while Malai Broccoli provides a satisfying vegetarian option. Green Peas Kaju Wada and Mokka Jonna Wada bring a nostalgic taste of Indian snacking.

Main course highlights

For the main course, Ragi Sankati with Chicken impressed, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions that cater to different tastes. Nalli Bokka Biryani adds a must-try experience for non-vegetarian diners, with balanced spices creating a memorable dish.

Sweet finish with signature style

The meal concluded with an Apricot Delight, providing a fitting end to a hearty meal.

According to general manager Sridhar Mula, quirky dish names are intentionally chosen to intrigue guests, who come back to the restaurant drawn by the unique flavours.

Lake District Bar & Kitchen: Dining with a view at Hussain Sagar

Nestled beside Hussain Sagar, Lake District Bar & Kitchen blends a modern ambience with views of the Buddha statue and Telangana Secretariat, making it a prime spot for photo opportunities.

Signature cocktails and refreshing starters

The new menu features signature cocktails like the gin-based Escape, blending apple, strawberry, orange, basil and lime juices. Among the appetisers, the Golden Pumpkin Prawn impresses with a creamy sauce, while Chilli Squid offers a unique twist with flattened rice topping.

Spicy delights and veggie options

Beijing Prawns, tossed in Bhut Jolokia sauce, pack a punch for spice lovers, with an initial sweetness that gives way to heat. The vegetarian Edamame Hara Bhara Kebab pairs well with rice and offers a simple yet flavourful bite.

Puffizza Addition

From the newly introduced ā€˜Puffizzaā€™ line, the Mutton Ghee Roast Puffizza stands out, with tender meat in puff pastry, combining tradition with modern dining innovation.

Big Byte Bakers at Khajaguda: Nostalgia reimagined

A Hyderabad classic, Big Byte Bakersā€”a landmark at Khajagudaā€”revives bakery nostalgia with a touch of European elegance. With checkered floors and vintage decor, this spot feels like a trip back in time.

Drinks to start

We began with a Zest Lemon Cold Brew, a tart, refreshing choice, and the Sparkling Ginger Lemongrass Iced Tea, which perfectly balanced gingerā€™s warmth with cooling flavours.

Classic snacks with a twist

In snacks, Drums of Heavenā€™s tangy, garlic-infused sauce and the crunchy Mutton Chop were highlights. For a taste of an Indian bakery classic, the bakeryā€™s old-school burger, with its soft buns, shredded chicken, onions, and homemade mayonnaise, took us back to simpler times.

Signature Big Byte Special

The Patakha Pizza, a double-layered pizza with shredded chicken, topped with cheese, brought an innovative twist. To finish, the Hazelnut Mousse Jar delivered a smooth, sweet end to our nostalgic meal.

These Hyderabad eateries each offer a distinct experience, from tradition-rich dishes to scenic lake views and old-school bakery charm.
