Hyderabad Embraces New-Age Cafés With Regional Roots and Global Touches

Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s food culture is seeing a thoughtful shift — one that combines the fast pace of urban life with a renewed interest in local flavours. Across neighbourhoods like Banjara Hills and Begumpet, cafés are now offering menus that nod to South Indian roots while staying relevant to contemporary tastes. Here’s a look at three spots offering distinct experiences, each with its own unique take on what it means to eat well in the city.

Vasaara Coffee Shop: Fusion Flavours With a View

Set in Banjara Hills, Vasaara Coffee Shop offers a space where South Indian tradition meets artistic charm. The interiors draw from Cheriyal painting styles and Tholu Bommalaata puppetry, complemented by antique brass décor and carved wooden furniture.

If you’re visiting, consider trying the chilli cheese punugulu — a fusion of a classic South Indian snack with the cheesy crunch of a toast topping, served with a spicy pandu mirapakaya mayo. For mains, the Sambar rice, served in a quirky pickle jar, can be a comforting choice, especially when paired with papad. Those dining in pairs might enjoy the Cooker Chicken Pulao, which comes in a pressure cooker that’s opened at the table. There’s also a Jackfruit Pulao for vegetarians.

Wrap up the experience with a hot filter coffee served in a traditional brass davara. Expect to spend around INR 1,300 for two.

Panchakattu: Quick Rayalaseema Meals With Purpose

With a new outlet in Begumpet, Panchakattu caters to busy professionals, gym-goers, and anyone looking for a nutritious, regional meal on the go. The minimalist interiors echo South Indian earth tones, with terracotta-coloured walls and plenty of greenery.

For a refreshing start, the Nannari sherbet — made with the fermented nannari root and jaggery — might be worth trying. It has a naturally cooling effect and subtle spice notes. From there, go for the Neyyi Karam Idli, served on a banana leaf with generous ghee and karam podi. The Neyyi Karam Palayam Dosa, filled with potato and onion curry, is another satisfying option, as is the Uthappam topped with onions and signature spice blends.

To cool down the spice, the filter coffee served in brass, followed by the Apricot Delight, makes for a gentle finish. Meals here are priced at about INR 400 for two.

Faim Bistro: Continental Comfort With a Skyline Backdrop

Perched in Banjara Hills, Faim Bistro caters to those looking for a place to unwind, work, or meet with friends — all while enjoying views of the Hyderabad skyline. Inside, soft 2000s hits and modern wall art set the tone for a laid-back visit.

You could start your order with a Peach Iced Tea or fresh Watermelon juice as a summer refresher. Their Cappuccino remains a reliable staple. For snacks, the Veg Nuggets come with two contrasting dips — a cheese-egg mayo and a spicy mayo. The Crispy Chicken is a strong choice for non-vegetarian diners, known for its well-balanced seasoning.

From the mains, the Margherita Pizza is a light option with fresh basil, while the Mushroom Rice Bowl offers a more filling alternative, served with vegetables in garlic sauce. Among desserts, consider trying the Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake or the Hot Chocolate with Cookies, which brings together richness and comfort in one cup. Meals here average around INR 1,500 for two.

Local Flavours, Contemporary Spaces

These cafés reflect Hyderabad’s evolving dining scene — one that appreciates both global convenience and local identity. Whether you’re craving a hearty South Indian meal, a cup of strong filter coffee, or just a peaceful corner with city views, there’s now a café that delivers exactly that — with just the right touch of something new.
