Three accidents caused by drunk drivers amid COVID-19 lockdown

Hyderabad: Even before COVID lockdown on liquor was lifted, three accidents caused by people under the influence of alcohol were reported in different parts of the city.

Restriction on sale of liquor was lifted only on Wednesday in Telangana.

However, even before that, on Monday night, a speeding car rammed into a house beside the road in Alwal damaging its compound wall. Those living in the house escaped unhurt but the occupants of the vehicle fled the spot.

According to eye witnesses, immediately after the crash, the occupants moved out of the vehicle and fled the place in another car. Even before the police could arrive at the place, they managed to escape.

Alwal police who seized the vehicle, found an alcohol bottle near the car at the place. It is suspected that the bottle fell out from the car during the crash. A case has been registered and the police are trying to trace the owner of the car and those travelling in the vehicle during the time of accident.

In an incident at Tolichowki, an 8-year-old girl reportedly sustained injuries, after being hit by a speeding bike. The girl was admitted to a hospital while the biker fled the spot. The biker was allegedly driving the two-wheeler under the affect of alcohol, according to the people in the area. Police are investigating.

In another incident at Dabeerpura in the Old city on Tuesday noon, a biker, driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, hit a boy who was walking beside the road and injured him.

Dabeerpura patrolling staff who noticed this rushed to the boyā€™s rescue and provided first aid before shifting him to the hospital.

The biker was also detained and shifted to a police station for further inquiry.

There were also reports of skidding of bikes allegedly being driven drunk drivers but the incidents were not reported to the police station as they were caused by self.
