Visakhapatnam: A couple accused of murdering two daughters over superstitious beliefs were shifted to a Psychiatric hospital at Visakhapatnam for better mental treatment.

Padmaja, the mother of the deceased girls, has been chanting the name of Lord Shiva claiming herself as the avatar of Kali. This led to panic with female inmates requesting the jail authorities to shift the woman to another block.

Her husband, Purusatham Naidu, is also in a state of delusion. He was bursting into tears at regular intervals at Madnapalle sub-jail.

After observing the couple, the government hospital psychiatrists and SVVR Government hospital doctors advised the jail authorities to shift the couple to the Government Mental Health Care hospital in Vizag. They were shifted in tight security on Wednesday.

The highly educated couple with cushy government jobs had a fallacy that they would resurrect their daughters from the dead as "Kalyuga" will end and "Satyayuga" will dawn.

With a result, the couple allegedly bludgeoned their two young daughters to death with dumbbells at their residence in Andhra Pradesh's Madanapalle in Chittoor district.

Earlier, Radhika, a psychiatrist at the district hospital, after examining the couple, said Padmaja, was meditating in a trance while worshiping Lord Shiva in the sub-jail room. Prison officials had placed her in a special barracks because she was behaving abnormally.
